Around the Camp: Confinement feeding of sheep

1. Are your frustrating staff frustrating you?

Staffing properties is a complicated task, especially when you add in that many of your employees are family or foreigners! Gordon and Dave Stone from Agri-Business Development Institute (ABDI) give a very quick insight into three key factors of managing staff. Their suggestion is, that a little bit of input i.e. being hands on initially, allows you to be hands off in the long term. Get some ideas on how you could better manage your staff by watching their 8 minute video.

2. Help create a Queensland and Northern Australia benchmark

If you are a producer or advisor (in Qld, NT or WA) and interested in an opportunity to create a benchmark of the current approaches to decision making and planning for climate variability (season to season; year to year) – the Queensland and Northern Australia Drought and Climate Adaptation Program (DCAP) is looking for you. DCAP is a Queensland Government initiative to improve producer drought preparedness and resilience.  By participating in a short web survey, you can help provide benchmarking information that will guide the program as it looks to improve the awareness and effectiveness of information and tools supporting the profitability and productivity of producers in a variable climate. To find out more about DCAP contact Neil Cliffe (neil.cliffe@daf.qld.gov.au) or phone 13 25 23.

DCAP is offering a copy of the book Will it rain (developed through the program and due for publication June 2017) to every person completing the survey. Just leave a postal address in the box provided before clicking submit.

3. Considering organic?

If you’ve thought about going organic but not sure where to start, watch this short clip to get an idea about what benefits you may see and how certification works. If you want more, there are three other videos (although discussing beef, are generalised and applicable to sheep industries too). The videos discuss identification requirements, risk and quarantine.
