Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of ‘Around the Camp’ for 2016.  Hopefully some of you have been lucky enough to receive some much welcome rain over the festive season. The Leading Sheep team are excited for 2016, this year we are starting some new initiatives as well as continuing to run regionally relevant activities. This edition is focusing on carbon farming, sown pastures and more. As always if you have any suggestions for articles or feedback then please let us know.

2. Adidas runs with wool

3. Watch SWNRM carbon workshop presentations

In December 2015 South West NRM (SWNRM) hosted a Carbon workshop in Charleville, South West Queensland. With speculation occurring on what producers can and can’t do and how it may affect the livestock business, SWNRM decided to clarify some of the important information producers need to know. 4. Dealing with sown pasture run-down

When a paddock is first developed and a new pasture is sown, the amount of plant-available nitrogen (N) in the soil is typically higher than the pasture requires. This high level of N enablessown pasture newly established grass pasture to grow a large bulk of highly nutritious forage. However, over time the amount of plant-available N decreases as it becomes tied up in plant organic matter. Therefore, N needs to be added in a plant-available (mineral) form to overcome this deficiency and boost grass production.
