7. Size linked to ewe profitability

Larger ewes can be more profitable when access to labour is limited, according to research scientist Andrew Kennedy. Mr Kennedy went on to say “the assumption is that because you can’t run as many ewes it must be less profitable but they were counteracting this assumption by producing heavier lambs”.

A website has been created to sell or donate fodder directly to Australian farmers in drought declared areas. It’s an initiative of the Aussie Helpers Foundation, which is assisting drought-affected farmers and graziers nation-wide.

9. Economics of soil erosion control measures

Correct planning, equipment (dumpy level) and taking the time to measure the heights, slopes and water flow directions were some of the key messages that Darren Hill spoke about at the recent Soil Erosion workshops organised by South West Natural Resource Management.
