| Queensland wool producers have a unique opportunity to be part of a Building Rural People program being set up by Leading Sheep as a demonstration of its commitment to developing and investing in the human resources within the industry.
Leading Sheep will sponsor 15 Queensland sheep producers to attend an abridged version of the highly regarded Building Rural Leaders program. Facilitated by Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries’ (DPI&F) rural development officer Rob Neilson, the August-November 2007 program will run as three modules of two days each, about six weeks apart.
Leading Sheep Southern Inland regional coordinator Emily Martin said the program was developed in response to producers expressing an interest in personal development to help them manage change effectively, think differently, make good business decisions and build relationships.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for producers to participate in a life-changing program for no registration cost. Participants will only be required to pay their own travel, meals and accommodation, and take time out of their work schedules,” Ms Martin said.
The dates of the Building Rural People program will be Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 August, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 September, and Wednesday 31 October and Thursday 1 November.
The course may run in two regions if there is sufficient demand. Course locations will depend on the geographical distribution of participants in the combined South East/Southern Inland (Dirranbandi, Talwood or Goondiwindi), Central West (Longreach, Blackall and Barcaldine) or South West (Cunnamulla, Charleville and Quilpie) regions.
The workshop program will include: introduction to action learning, leadership temperaments, understanding personality, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, communication, irrational beliefs, time management, visions and goals, affirmations, plans for the future, conflict management, presentation skills and getting positive outcomes through dialogue.
Interested producers need to contact Emily Martin on 07 4625 5444 or by email emilymartin@bigpond.com as soon as possible. Unless 15 producers express interest and commitment to the program dates, the course will not proceed.
Leading Sheep is an innovative, regionally-based project working to boost the profitability of the Queensland sheep and wool industry. The project was initiated by Australian Wool Innovation and operates in partnership with the DPI&F and AgForce.
