| Queensland sheep producers have learned how to significantly increase their flock numbers by better management of pregnant ewes at a series of reproduction workshops.
Chris Shands presented the latest information from an Australian Sheep CRC project Wean More Lambs at workshops in Goondiwindi, Dirranbandi and Cunnamulla from April 27 to 29.
The Making More From Sheep events were delivered through the Leading Sheep network.
Mr Shands from NSW DPI at Glen Innes discussed the use of pregnancy scans to improving lambing performance.
The Sheep CRC research project has shown that up to 10 percent more lambs can be achieved by identifying ewes that are pregnant with twins and single lambs. Dry sheep can be re-mated.
Managing ewes to improve their condition prior to mating also has a big influence conception rates.
Mr Shands will present two more workshops in the Woodbine woolshed via Blackall on May 27 and at Rosebank Research, Longreach on May 28.
These events will also feature presentations by Ben Swain, Executive Officer of the Australian Merino Sire Evaluation Association and Dr Libby Woodhams on the Sheep CRC Next Generation Wool Quality Program.
Both days are from 9.30 am to 3 pm and reservations can be made by contacting Ruth Allan in Longreach on 4650 1225
